"Keeping things whole" (Mark Strand)

In a field
I am the absence
of field.
This is
always the case.
Wherever I am
I am what is missing.

When I walk
I part the air
and always
the air moves in
to fill the spaces
where my body’s been.

We all have reasons
for moving.
I move
to keep things whole.

― Mark Strand (1934 - 2014)

  1. This is an unusual poem, and a good one to choose for a tribute. xx

  2. I am deeply saddened by the loss. . .
This poem resonating with me on a very personal level. . . as if witnessing my own reflection
passing by as a stranger even to myself. A startling feeling, I must admit.

Thank you, Flame. For being here. xxx
